Alice Lloyd Eagles Baseball Earns 4-2 Victory over the University of Pikeville
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball squad played host to the University of Pikeville Bears on February 21st. Once the smoke had cleared, the Eagles were standing tall with a nice 4-2 win.
Alice Lloyd struck first. In the second inning, Cole Bishop (C) singled. He then came in to score on a grounder from Ryan Cozart (SS), and give his team a 1-0 advantage.
The Bears would answer in the third when a single allowed them to plate one run (1-1). For the next two innings, things remained the same.
ALC would respond in the sixth inning. The big blow came when TJay Mullins (LF) would unload on a fastball and send it soaring over the left field wall. Now, ALC led 2-1. They would then add an insurance run when Nick Van Keuren (RF) stroked a hard grounder that was bobbled, allowing Jacob Lovell (DH) to sprint home (3-1).
One inning later, for the Caney Creek Clubbers, Bishop hit a grounder that was misplayed once more. This led to Mullins scoring from third (4-1).
UPike tried to rally in the eighth when they socked a solo homerun (4-2). Fortunately, the comeback fizzled out with no more runs scoring.
From there, Eagle pitching slammed the door shut to preserve the satisfying victory.
For the Pippa Passes Club (4-1), they would register 6 hits, with Mullins smacking 2 of them, including his homer. He and Cozart each provided an RBI. The team would leave 8 runners stranded on base and play error-free ball
On the mound, Peyton Branham threw 7 solid innings to take the win. He allowed 7 hits and just 1 earned run. Dawson Beckett came on the final 2 innings in relief and earned the save. He gave up 2 hits and 1 run.
The Bears (6-4) stroked 9 hits and left 9 runners on base. They committed 3 costly errors.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they host Wright State for three contests. The series opener is Friday, February 24th, at 2:00 pm.
