In the opening contest, Midway used two key innings to put the game away.
Things started on a positive note for the hometown boys. Corey Jefferson (SS) opened the game with a single. Two batters later, TJay Mullins (LF) continued his torrid hitting streak by powering a shot over the center field fence, to put his club ahead 2-0.
Over the next two innings, Midway would answer. They smacked a solo homer in the second to slice the deficit in half (2-1). One inning later, a double promptly brought in the tying run. After three innings, the score stood 2-2.
MU would gain some separation in a key fourth inning. During that juncture, a single and a double each delivered two runs. The visitors now led 6-2.
They would add to their lead in the sixth when an error and single brought two more scores across the plate (8-2). Fortunately, the hosts would attempt to rally.
In the bottom of the same inning, after Noah Dingess (1B) singled, Eric Williams (DH) stroked a double up the gap to deliver the goods (8-3). Later, a deep sacrifice fly brought him home. The score now read 8-4, and another good inning from the Caney Creek crew could make the game interesting.
However, in the seventh, a Midway sacrifice gained one of the runs back (9-4). They would then put the game out of reach in a key ninth inning.
In the game-clincher, MU loaded the bases before unleashing a triple to clear them (11-4). They would eventually add three more men to go up 15-4. Their pitching would salt the contest away soon after.
