Alice Lloyd Baseball Eagles Travel to Milligan

Milligan, TN: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball team returned to the diamond for the first time in 2024 by journeying to the Volunteer state to battle the Milligan College Buffaloes on February 7th. When the dust had settled, the hosts had taken a 11-2 victory.

In the first inning, ALC got off to a good start when Cory Jefferson opened with a single. After advancing to second, he scampered home when Justin Johnson smacked a single of his own to right field (1-0). However, the momentum was getting ready to change.

In the bottom of the inning, the hosts laced 5 hits to produce 5 runs of their own. Milligan now led, 5-1.

In the second, Alice Lloyd would look to chip into the deficit when Kyle Johnson doubled. Unfortunately, he was left on base. The hosts would then plate a single run in their half on a sacrifice fly (6-1).

The score remained unchanged until the fourth. In that inning the Tennessee squad used 4 singles and 3 Eagle errors to send 3 more runners across home (9-1). The one inning later, they added their final scores on a two-run homerun (11-1).

The Pippa Passes club looked to mount a comeback in their final at bat. They would score a run, strengthened by a single and TJay Mullins double. Later, two hit-batsmen loaded the bases. Unfortunately, the contest ended on a strikeout.

ALC (3-2) registered 7 hits on the day, as Johnson and Carson Tate both had 2 apiece. Johnson and Mullins both swatted doubles to provide the RBI's.

On the mound, Gibbs Cochran started and went two innings, suffering the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 6 runs with 1 strikeout. He was relieved by Trenton Williams who gave up 5 hits and 3 runs in his two innings. Chase Conley went the final two innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs with 4 strikeouts.

The victors (5-0) won the hitting battle 14-7 and committed 1 error compared to 4 by the Eagles.

Alice Lloyd returns to action on February 14th when they host the Pikeville Bears. The opening pitch is set for 3:00 pm
