ALC Baseball splits doubleheader with Bob Jones University

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles (21-12) baseball team returned to the diamond on March 31st as they returned home to face the Bob Jones University Bruins (8-18) in a doubleheader. The Bluegrass crew started the series well but faltered in the nightcap, allowing the Bruins to return to South Carolina with a split.

March 31st

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-6: BJU-3

"The Pass" rolled out of the dugout with a big opening inning to take the opener.

The Eagles jumped out quickly in the first, using Kyle Johnson's (CF) steal of home and a sacrifice fly to move ahead 2-0. Later in the inning, Kyle Compton (3B) laced a single to right to double their total, 4-0.

In the fourth, Bob Jones used a single to dent the scoreboard, 4-1, only to see ALC plate a pair of runs on a bases-loaded error. Now, the Caney boys led 6-1.

In the fifth, the Palmetto State club lined a pair of singles to earn a duo of runs, 6-3. From there, however, the blue and white would slam the door shut to seal the deal.

At the plate, Cole Bishop (C) went 2-3 at the plate, while Compton added 2 RBI's.

Colton Lovelace started on the mound and earned the win. In 4.2 innings of work, he allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits.  He stuck out 4 and walked 3.

Braydon Norton tossed the final 2.1 innings and earned the save. He allowed just 1 hit as he closed out the contest.

The squads tied in the hitting battle 7-7, and saw BJU commit the games only error.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd-3, BJU-10

The Mountain men raced out to a 3-0 lead, but were forced to watch the Bruins rally and take the contest going away.

The home squad would open the scoring in the first, when, with a pair of runners on base, Compton teed off on a fast ball and drove it over the fence for a quick 3-0 advantage. Little did anyone realize that the script would soon flip in a major way.

In the Bruin second, a 2-run blast ate into the deficit (3-2). One inning later, a wild pitch permitted the Bruins runner to scamper home and knot the score up, 3-3.

Then in the crucial fourth inning, a pair of Eagles errors, a wild pitch and one Bob Jones single delivered 4 big runs. Suddenly, BJU led 7-3. Then in the sixth, they laced a triple and pair of doubles to run the scoreboard to 10-3.

In their last at-bat, a fielders choice delivered the Caney crew a run (10-4), but that would be all they earned as the rally died out.

At the plate, Austin Byrd (CF) went 2-4 and Compton's big blast provided all 3 RBIs.

Thomas Forehand started on the mound and suffered the loss. In 3.1 innings, he allowed 6 hits and 4 earned runs with 2 whiffs and 4 walks.

Matthew Hebar relieved for 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 3 earned runs with 2 K's. Niklas Kidd followed. In 0.2 innings, he allowed 2 hits and 1 run.

Parker Williams pitched the seventh, striking out 2 and retiring the side in order.

The Eagles trailed in hits, 8-6, and made a pair of crucial errors.
