Alice Lloyd Eagles Earn Impressive Road Victory Over Undefeated Asbury University, 83-63
Wilmore, KY: The visiting Alice Lloyd College Eagles gave an impressive effort, leading from start to finish, to take out the undefeated Asbury University Eagles, 83-73. The matchup took place on November 29th.
In the opening half, the men from Caney Creek showed they were ready for battle as they held the high-scoring hosts to just 2 points in the first six minutes, while senior forward Will Philpot and junior forward Damon Tobler accounted for all 11 points as the Eagles raced out to an 11-2 advantage.
The lead would reach 15 (32-17) following a deep bomb, courtesy of senior guard Bryce Slone, at 6:13. AU fought back to cut the deficit to six late (39-33), but when Slone swished a 25-footer just before the buzzer, his squad would take a 42-33 lead into intermission.
In the second half, ALC would open where they left off as freshman guard Koji Anderson drained a trifecta to set the tone. From there, the visiting Eagles maintained their focus and blew the lead over twenty (63-42) after Slone buried yet another triple with 12:23 remaining. Although Asbury would fight hard to remain undefeated, the Pippa Passes crew would drain 9-10 free throws in the final 4:23 to remain in complete control and slam the door shut on the impressive victory.
For the Eagles (3-5), they had incredible balance. Slone led the way with 25 points, sinking 8-13 shots (5-10 3FG), and 4-4 free throws. Tobler finished with 14 points (6-9FG) and added 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists.
Philpot finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Anderson chipped in with 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds from the point guard spot. In addition, senior center Colyn Sturgill added 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Alice Lloyd shot 50.8% (32-61) from the floor and 36% (9-25) from behind the arc. They finished 83.3% (10-12) from the foul line but only shot 2 free throws in the first 35:37 of the game. They also had 40 rebounds, 15 assists, and 10 steals.
Asbury (7-1) was led by Nick Fort with 20 points. His club shot just 31.9% (23-72) from the floor and 23.5% (8-34) from behind the arc. They were also 70.4% (19-27) from the foul line and had 43 rebounds, 9 assists, and 14 steals.
Alice Lloyd plays their next game on Saturday, November 9th, when they travel to the Buckeye State to battle the Ohio Christian Trailblazers in important RSC play. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm. They then return one day later when they face the NCAA DI Bellarmine University Knights at Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY., with a 4:00 pm tip time.
