Philpot’s Double-Double Propels Alice Lloyd to Fifth Consecutive Victory

Pippa Passes, KY: Senior forward Will Philpot provided a big 20-point, 13-rebound double-double to lift the homestanding Alice Lloyd Eagles to a nice 78-61 non-conference victory over the Boyce College Bulldogs. The matchup was held at the Perry Campus Center on December 8th.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-6 advantage at the 15:41 mark before the hosts went on an 11-2 burst over the next three minutes to take a 17-12 lead.  Later, when senior big man Colyn Sturgill swished a short jumper with 6:18 remaining, his club led 28-18.

However, from that point, sparked by guard Brody Madeira, Boyce would close the half on a 15-6 spurt and only trail 34-33 at intermission.

In the second half, ALC would tighten up on the defensive side of things. When junior guard Jared Strickland scored on a fast break layup with 11:38 on the clock, the Caney Creek crew had a double-digit lead (53-43) once again.

From that juncture, ALC would maintain control and refuse to allow the Louisville squad to get within striking distance. The Pippa Passes squad would extend their advantage to as much as 18 points (71-59) on their way to a fifth straight win.

For Alice Lloyd (6-5), they were led on the night in double-figures by Philpot with his impressive 20-point, 13-rebound double-double, and Bryce Slone, who drilled four deep bombs for 12 points.

Freshman guard Koji Anderson chipped in with 9 points and 6 rebounds, while junior forward Noah Caudill came off the bench to contribute 7 points and 8 boards. Sophomore forward Blaine Keathley grabbed 9 rebounds of his own.

ALC shot 48.4% (31-64) from the field and 33.3% (7-21) from behind the arc. They sank 81.8% (9-11) from the foul line and added 51 big rebounds, 9 assists, and 1 steal.

For Boyce (4-5), Madeira had 22 points. His club finished shooting 32.4% (22-68) from the floor and 29.4% (10-34) from behind the arc. They hit 77.8% (7-9) from the foul line. They also added 26 rebounds, 11 assists, and 8 steals.

ALC returns to action next week on Tuesday, December 13th, when they host the Rio Grande Red Storm in a huge River States Conference matchup at 7:00 pm.
