Balanced Attack Propels Alice Lloyd Eagles to big victory over Carolina University, 111-75
Pippa Passes, KY: On November 7th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles, hosted the high-scoring Carolina University Bruins. In a contest that saw excellent teamwork and blazing-hot shooting, the Eagles would come through with an impressive 111-75 victory.
At the beginning of the contest, Carolina came out aggressive, which enabled the Bruins to jump to a quick 7-4 advantage in the opening three minutes of play.
However, over the next six minutes, the tables would turn. The men from Pippa Passes showed their solid balance as seven players would score during a 26-5 blitz. When senior guard Jared Strickland sank a jumper at 10:30, ALC suddenly led, 30-12.
Over the final ten minutes of the segment, the Caney Creek crew would continue to tickle the twine as sophomore guard Jack Brown would produce 10 first half points to provide a big boost.
The lead would extend to 25 (42-75) on a lob dunk from sophomore guard Wilgus Tolson to Strickland. The halftime buzzer would sound with the hosts holding a 49-27 advantage.
In the second half, the Kentucky boys came out of the locker room laser-focused and red-hot. In just two minutes, Strickland, senior forward Ben Soumahoro, senior forward Blaine Keathley, and sophomore guard Koji Anderson all scored during a rapid 11-2 burst. Just like that, the lead was 31 (60-29).
From there, the hosts depth continued to show as junior guard Jacob Curry, freshman guard Landon Napier, and freshman forward Jackson Tackett each sank multiple big shots. Every member of the Eagles squad would play freely, as ten players hit double-figure minutes.
The lead would reach its zenith of 37 (91-54) at 7:10, courtesy on a beautiful transition bucket from Soumahoro of a nice feed from Keathley. In all, thirteen different Eagles would dent the scoreboard and play a part in the complete team victory.
For ALC (3-0), five players reached double figures, and three more added 9 points. They were led on the night by Strickland, who pumped in 18 points (8-13FG) and Soumahoro with 16 (7-10 FG).
Curry added 13 points (4-8 FG) while Brown (5-8 FG) and Napier (5-7 FG) each added 12. In addition, Anderson, Keathley, and Tackett all contributed 9 points on a combined 12-17 shooting.
Tackett paced the club with 8 rebounds while Soumahoro and Brown both snagged 7. Senior guard Brady Nelson and Tolson tied with 5 assists apiece while Nelson also led the squad with 2 steals.
ALC shot an exceptional 65.3 % (47-72) from the field, including an eye-popping 72.9% (27-37) the second half. The team finished at 40.9% (9-22) from beyond the arc and 67% (8-12) from the charity stripe. They added 48 rebounds, 29 assists, and 8 steals.
For Carolina (1-4), Adam Claybourne led his club with 18 points. The Bruins finished shooting 40% (30-75) from the floor and 12.9% (4-31) from behind the arc. They hit 50% (11-22) from the foul line while adding 29 rebounds, 12 assists, and 14 steals.
ALC returns to action this Friday when they travel to Louisville to face the Boyce College Bulldogs. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.
