ALC Eagle falter late, fall at Carolina University, 75-70

Winston-Salem, NC: The Alice Lloyd Eagles journeyed to the Tar Heel State on Tuesday to battle the home-standing Carolina Bruins. The Bluegrass boys led the majority of the way, before a cold spurt contributed to their demise, 75-70.

In the first half ALC led the majority of the way, fueled by a pair of early bombs delivered from freshman forward Evin Eversole. Although the contest would remain close, the visitors would manage to slip into the locker room at intermission clinging to a 38-35 lead.

In the second half, the Caney Creek crew fought to preserve the advantage, and sparked by senior guard Koji Anderson, they did just that. Eventually, when senior guard Alex Rasnick swished a trifecta at 9:58, the lead was five, 55-50. However, over the next five minutes, the Caney Creek crew went cold and the Bruins took advantage. Over that time frame, CU went on a critical 13-0 run. Suddenly at 4:44, Carolina led 63-55.

In crunch time, Eversole and Anderson came to life for the Pippa Passes posse and combined for thirteen points to fuel a 15-9 run and get the deficit within just two, 72-70 with .02 showing. Now forced to foul, the Eagles sent Carolina to the charity stripe.

The first attempt was good, making the score 73-70 and the second missed. However, Carolina managed to get a tip at the errant shot and it went through the net, setting the final score.

For Alice Lloyd (3-9), Eversole and Anderson were the only players to achieve double-figures. Eversole sank half of his 18 attempts to lead all scorers with 24 points. He added a team-high 8 rebounds. His teammate Anderson stuck 5-9 attempts and 5-6 free throws for 16 points.  In addition, the duo was joined by junior forward Naz Welch with 2 steals apiece, while junior guard Landon Napier and sophomore center Tayson Parks each recorded 2 assists.
