Eversole, Napier combine for 46 points, lift ALC to 88-79 victory over Kuyper, Michigan
Pippa Passes, KY: Alice Lloyd freshman forward Evin Eversole and junior guard Landon Napier combined for 46 points to propel the Caney Creek Eagles to a 88-79 victory over the Kuyper Cougars (MI) on Friday, January 23rd.
In the first half, the Cougars would strike first on a mid-range jumper (2-0). Napier would be fouled on a trifecta, and can the trio of tosses to make the score 3-2. The hosts would never trail again.
Napier and Eversole would produce their clubs first 12 points on the day. Eventually, when Napier scored once more on a fast break layup at 11:39, the Eagle lead was twelve, 26-14.
Over the next three minutes, the Michigan squad would ride the play of big Jacob May to roll to roll off a quick 15--5 run. That sliced the score to 29-27, and the squads would continue to battle the remainder of the way.
Finally, with .35 showing on the clock, junior guard Desmier Hatchett sank a deep bomb for the Pippa Passes posse, which set the halftime score 42-37, ALC.
In the second half, the Cougars stayed within striking distance, but each time they would apper to make a run, the home crew would always answer. By the ten minute mark, the lead was double-figures, and the big-city team would never make a serious threat again.
For Alice Lloyd (7-13), four players achieved double-figures. Eversole bagged 8-14 field goals and 6 free-throws to finish with a game-high 24 points. He also yanked down 12 rebounds, blocked 3 shots, and nabbed a pair of steals. Napier was right behind his buddy, pumping in 22 points on 7-14 accuracy. He also swished a trio of triples and made 5-6 foul shots. For good measure, he grabbed 6 rebounds, dished off 3 assists, and nabbed 1 steal.
In addition, Hatchett chipped in with 14 points, 3 steals, and a game-high 6 assists while junior forward Naz Welch contibuted 10 points and 6 boards of his own.
ALC shot 46% (29-63) from the floor, 25.9% (7-27) from deep, and 74.2.2% (23-31) from the foul line. They added 37 rebounds, 17 assists and 8 steals.
KC (9-11) was led by May with 20 points. His squad shot 47.1% (32-68) from the floor, 28.6% (6-21) from deep, and 64.3% (9-14) from the foul line. They added 42 rebounds, 19 assists and 3 steals.
