ALC Eagles use blazing start to defeat Kuyper Michigan, 91-84

Wyoming, MI: The Alice Lloyd Eagles journeyed to the great north on Friday February 6th to begin a three-game swing through Michigan. Their opening opponent was the Kuyper College Cougars. The Bluegrass boys rode a hot-shooting first half all the way to a 91-84 victory.

In the opening stanza, ALC freshman Evin Eversole controlled the paint, pouring in 10 points in the first six minutes of play to lift his club to a quick 17-10 advantage. From that point, his buddy Koji Anderson took over, as the senior drained four trifectas and pumped in 15 points to bolster the Eagles offense. He and Eversole combined for 29 total points in twenty minutes and the squad drilled 9-17 bombs. This would give the blue and white a commanding 55-32 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Caney Creek crew led by as much as 26 points before the Cougars began to answer. Kuyper played hard and chipped away at the deficit. Despite not getting into the bonus until less than one minute remained, the Bluegrass bombers held tough, leading all the way until the final buzzer to seal the nice victory.

For Alice Lloyd (8-14), Anderson was exceptional. He poured in 28 points on 8-15 accuracy, including 5-8 from beyond the arc. He also was a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe. Addentionally, he added 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal.

Eversole drained half of his eighteen attempts and finished with 18 points. He also led the way with 9 rebounds. Junior guard Desmier Hatchett sank 6-9 shots and chipped in 13 points. He led the day with 3 steals and added 4 assists of his own.

Also, freshman forward Andrew Bloomfield tied Anderson for the assist lead, as he handed off 5 as well.

On the day, ALC shot 50% (35-70) from the floor, 44.8% (13-29) from deep, and a perfect 100% (8-8) from the foul line. They added 25 rebounds, 25 big assists, and 13 steals.

KC (9-12), which saw five Cougars reach double-figures, was led by Elijah Searcy with 14 points, His squad shot 45,2% (28-62) from the field, 29.6% (8-27) from long-range, and remained in striking distance by bagging 76.9% (20-26) from the foul line. They added 48 big rebounds, 18 assists, and 7 steals.
