Alice Lloyd Golf Preview

by Noah Hamer, Student Sports Reporter

The men's golf team at Alice Lloyd College is excited to begin the 2022 campaign and will be participating in the NAIA and NCCAA this season. In addition, women's golf will make its debut this year as well. Veteran coach Robert Hamilton will be guiding both clubs. We sat down with the coach to ask him some questions about the upcoming campaign.

What do you expect from the team this season?

Coach Hamilton: We have practice systems, stats monitoring, and equipment for player development that we have never had before. Our team has been committed to training for the last couple of years. These changes will only enhance the skills of our players, especially developing players. We potentially could have a much better season this year.

From coaching last year, what was your favorite moment with the team?

Coach Hamilton: Our first two tournaments last year were so promising. Our hope is to build on that momentum this year.

With your returning players coming back from last year, where do you see the team as a whole?

Coach Hamilton: Our returning #1 player, Mason Compton, looks poised to have a breakout year after working hard on his game the last two years. Our #2 player, Korey Hanson, is getting more consistent with his entire game and looks to have his best semester this fall. Their experience will definitely be valuable.

What do you think the incoming players will bring to the team?

Coach Hamilton: All of our newcomers are working hard and have good potential. We have several freshmen who have the basics needed to develop into solid players once they get used to the longer courses. We also have strong women golfers who should get the new program started off in the right direction.

What are your goals for these teams this season?

Coach Hamilton: This top-4 core group is, talent-wise, the best we have had for a few years. We hope to get better with every match, and I am excited for the season.
