Alice Lloyd College Eagles Golf Concludes 2023 Season in RSC Tournament
Florence, IN: The Alice Lloyd Eagles Golf Team journeyed to the Hoosier state on April 16th /18th as they concluded their season by participating in the River States Conference Tournament, held at the Belterra Golf Course.
Eleven squads and fifty-four individuals took to the links for the three-day, 54-hole event.
Midway (Ky.) University secured its third-straight River States Conference Men's Golf Championship by shooting a tournament-best score of 290 in the final round on Tuesday. MU turned their nine-shot lead after two rounds to a 28-shot win at the end of the 54-hole championship.
Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College finished in ninth place. The young squad fired their best score of 342 in the final round to secure that spot.
Also named was the RSC Champions of Character Team, with one member from each school nominated by their head coach for best displaying the NAIA's five-character values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship. For ALC, Hayden Halbert, a December 2022 graduate, received the award.
Finally, the RSC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team was named with team members having a 3.25+ GPA and at their school for more than one semester. For ALC, Carson Hanson, a December 2022 graduate, and Mason Compton earned this honor.
For this season-ending tournament, five members of the Eagles squad competed. Below are their complete results, with final comments provided, courtesy of Coach Robert Hamilton:
Compton shot 87/79/74 for 240 to finish T16. Excluded a tough first round, he was competitive with the best golfers in the conference, and despite his first round, he still finished only 4 shots out of All-Conference honors. Compton has been working hard on necessary swing changes that are now starting to really pay off.
Rowe shot 82/83/80 for 245 to finish T24 and has been improving consistently all year. Three solid rounds on a difficult layout in difficult weather is a great result. Rowe looks to move into contender status for tournaments in the future.
Petry shot 93/97/95 for 285 to finish 47th. He has the game to be a very strong player and is just a freshman.
Bowen shot 92 in the first round before having to withdraw due to injury but has improved dramatically over this year. He was hitting the ball very well and would have posted a good score if he were able to continue. The potential is definitely there for this freshman to be a very good player.
Sauvage shot 98/99/94 for 291 to finish 48th. The freshman has all the tools to be a good player, and time and effort will take care of that.
