Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Hosts RSC Foe, Indiana University Southeast

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eaglesreturned home on March 21st for a doubleheader with the formidable Indiana University Southeast Lady Grenadiers. After two matchups, the visitors would come away with a sweep for the series.

March 21

GAME ONE

IUS-6 Alice Lloyd-1

The Lady Grenadiers held on to win in the series opener

After a clean first inning, IUS struck in the second as a double produced a run (1-0). In their next inning, a solo-blast earned them another (2-0).

In the Southeast fourth, a single delivered 2 more scores (4-0). Later, the feat was duplicated in their half of the fifth inning (6-0). ALC would soon answer, however.

The Eagles best chance was in the sixth. In that inning, two runners reached base via walks. Next, Lyndsey Adkins(1B)then drove 1 run home with a single. Suddenly, with two runners on base and just one out, a big inning loomed possible.

Unfortunately, that did not occur. The next batter attempted a surprise bunt, but it was caught by the catcher. Then, a baserunner was picked off while attempting to steal second base, ending the threat.

Indiana went down in the final inning, giving the Caney Creek crew a last chance. However, after an opening walk, their lineup went down in order.

At the plate, Alexis Morris (2B) led the way with her 2 hits while Adkins had the lone RBI.

Maleigh McDaniel( P) allowed 9 hits and 6 runs in taking the loss. She gave up 3 walks and struck out 3 batters. Kursten Napier(P) and Carly Creech(P) each pitched an inning of relief. Both performed well, allowing 0 hits and 0 runs.

ALC had the games only error and were outhit, 9-3.

GAME TWO

IUS 10; Alice Lloyd-0

The Indiana ladies struck quickly, then pulled away for the victory.

IUS got out of the gate fast in the first inning, as a single and 2 walks led to 4 big scores (4-0). They added 1 in the third on a sacrifice fly (5-0).

In the fourth, a hit batter, plus a single and wild pitch permitted 4 Grenadiers to trot home (9-0). They then added a final blow in the fifth as a blast over the center field wall plated the final 2 runs (11-0).

For ALC, they were limited for the second straight game to just 3 hits as Morris, Adkins, and Rachel Rife (LF) all singled.

Pitcher Baylee Cox started on the mound and was relieved by Napier, Haylee Howell(P), and Mckenzie Orfield(P).. Cox allowed 4 earned runs, Napier 1, and Howell 5. Howell had the lone strikeout.

The hosts were outhit 8-3 and each club committed 1 error.
