Alice Lloyd softball hosts top-seeded Shawnee State University for doubleheader

Pippa Passes, KY: On April 20th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team hosted the division-leading Shawnee State University Bears in a doubleheader. This marks the second time this week the two clubs did battle. Shawnee would prove why they have earned their position in the standings as they emerged victorious in both contests. ALC's record now sits at 14-30 (3-25 RSC), while SSU moves to 29-7 (19-7 RSC).

Game 1

Alice Lloyd-5; SSU-15

The Ohio crew opened the scoring right out of the gate by unleashing a triple, double, and four singles to produce six big runs (6-0). They then made it 7-0 in the second, courtesy of a double.

ALC chipped into the deficit in the bottom half when they plated a pair of runs. The first scored on an infield grounder, while the second raced home on a single from Aubree Laster (CF). This made the score 7-2.

SSU broke away in the third, aided by three crucial Lady Eagle errors. This gave the Buckeye club a commanding 12-2 cushion.

The Pippa Passes crew earned one back in their half of the third (12-3) following singles from Maleigh McDaniel (SS) and Chloe Taylor (2B). They then scored a pair in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, plus another single from Laster. The scoreboard read 12-5.

Unfortunately, any hopes of a major comeback were dashed in the fifth after Shawnee retaliated with a two-run double and single to end the scoring, 15-5.

For the Eagles, Laster led the way with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Taylor rapped a pair of hits herself.

On the mound, Kirsten Vice suffered the loss. In 2 innings of work, she gave up 9 hits and 8 earned runs with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

Carly Creech and Katie Samuel both appeared in relief, with Creech allowing 1 hit and 1 run in 2 innings, and Samuel gave up 3 hits and 3 runs in 1 inning.

The Bluegrass club was outhit 15-5 and committed 4 errors.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd-0; SSU-9

The Portsmouth club opened the scoring in their first at-bat with a two-run triple (2-0). They then added single scores in each of the next two innings to ease ahead, 4-0.

In the fourth, a double scored three more Bears across the plate (7-0), and in the fifth, two final scores were delivered with sacrifice grounders (9-0).

In the meantime, ALC only managed three hits on the day as Taylor and Mckenzie Orfield (3B) each laced a double, and McDaniel singled.

On the mound for ALC, Kenna Justice gave up 10 hits and 7 runs in 4 innings, striking out 3.

Rylee Cox went the final inning, allowing 1 hit, 2 runs, and whiffing 1.

The Ohio club would win the hitting battle 11-3, while the Pippa Passes posse committed the lone error.
