ALC Softball throws two shutouts to take down Berea College, win streak reaches 12
Berea, KY: The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles softball squad journeyed to central Kentucky on March 24th to face NCCAA foe Berea College (1-15). The Pippa Passes posse was on top of their game, as they combined steady bat-work with a pair of consecutive shutouts, to run their record to 21-11.
March 24th
Game 1 (Five Innings)

The Lady Eagles blew the contest open in the second inning to take the series opener.
After a scoreless first inning, "The Pass" exploded in the second. ALC combined a pair of doubles from Briley Aidala (C) and Arin Rife (1B) with singles from Katie Deeds (2B), Jordan Rakes (LF), and Mckenzie Orfield (2B), to drive home 7 massive runs, and lead 7-0.
The next change to the scoreboard happened in the fourth when a Rakes double and Mountaineer error led to a pair of Caney Creek scores (9-0).
One inning later, three walks and a Deeds single drove in two more scores for the gals from the hills. This gave the visitors a 11-0 cushion.
Berea would go down in the final inning to hand the match to the Caney crew.
At the plate, Rakes and Deeds both went 2-3 Rife and Mackinzie Newport (CF) led the way, going 3-4 at the plate. Rakes, Rife, and Aidala each drove in 2 runs.
Kinna Justice started on the mound and took the impressive victory, allowing just 2 hits and 0 runs over four innings with 4 strikeouts and 0 walks.
Katie Samuel tossed the final inning allowing 1 single and 0 runs.
The Lady Eagles won the hitting-battle, 8-3 with 4 doubles, and committed less errors, 2-1.
GAME 2 (Five Innings)

ALC tossed a 1-hitter from the mound and rode a monster third inning at the plate to blow the match away and earn the sweep.
The blue and white bunch leaped ahead in their opening at bat. After Orfield drew a walk, Rife (P) promptly unloaded on a fast ball and deposited it over the fence for a 2-0 advantage.
In the third, ALC erupted. This time, doubles from Chloe Taylor (2B) and Orfield, plus singles from Shana Ray (RF), Rakes, Brooke Baker (SS), Whitney Lippert (C), and Newport led to a treasure-trove of 10 runs. Suddenly, ALC led 12-0.
Finally, in the fourth, after singles from Baker and Deeds, Ray followed suit to deliver a teammate and change the scoreboard to 13-0. That mark would hold until the final out was recorded, handing the "W" to the Knott County kids.
At the plate, Baker and Ray both finished 2-3. Rife provided the big bomb and 3 RBIs. Ray, Taylor and Orfield all added 2 to the cause.
On the mound, Rife tossed a dominating 1-hit shutout in four innings of work. She gave up 0 runs and just 1 walk while whiffing 8 batters. Samuel tossed the final inning, mowing the Mountaineers down in order, with 1 K of her own.
The Eagles led in hits (11-1) and player error-free ball.
