Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Basketball Earns Road Victory Over Milligan, 61-55
Milligan, TN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles came through with some big plays in the last quarter and held on to defeat the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes 61-55. The matchup was played on Wednesday, November 2nd.
In the opening period, freshman Shelby Stewart provided a lift as she drained long two bombs. This would enable ALC to sprint ahead 17-11 after ten minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the visitors went ice-cold, managing only five points the entire way. Due to this, Milligan would hold a 42-34 lead at intermission.
As the third period began, ALC would hang tough. Sophomore guard Katie Jo Moore hit some nice shots, and the Lady Eagles would lead by a bucket (39-32), entering the final quarter.
In the final ten minutes, both clubs had their highest quarter output. Fortunately for the visitors, senior guard Hanna Kash made a few key plays on offense, and her crew made the big stops when they needed to on defense, which iced the win for Coach John Mills.
For the victors (2-0), three players would reach double-figures. They were led on the night by Kash, who would lead all scorers with 13 points, despite missing most of the contest with foul trouble. Stewart drained 4-8 bombs to finish with 12 points, and added 3 steals. Moore added 11 points, and tied senior center Bailee Brainard with 3 assists. Sophomore forward Madison Thompson hauled down a team-high 7 rebounds and chipped in with 7 points.
The Caney Club finished shooting 33.9% (20-59) from the field and 26.7% (4-15) from long range. They connected on 70.8% from the charity line (17-24), while adding 35 rebounds, 10 assists, 7 steals, and 2 blocks.
MC (0-1) was paced by Lauren Longmire and Kristie Galea, both with 12 points. Their squad finished shooting 35.4% (23-65) from the field and just 13.6% (3-22) from behind the arc. From the foul line, they finished at only 6-14 for 42.9%. They also added 53 rebounds, 10 assists, 8 steals, and 1 block.
