Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Basketball defeated by homestanding Grace College

Winona Lake, IN: On Saturday, November 9th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles remained in the Hoosier state to face the home-standing Grace College Lancers in day 2 of the Grace College Val Weinstein Classic. Grace, the defending NCCAA DI National Champions, rode a monster second quarter, to take the 93-68 victory.

In the opening period, the Pippa Passes club played extremely well. Fueled by 15 combined points from the duo of senior guard Katie Jo Moore and freshman guard Bailey Stewart, the Eagles would take a 22-18 advantage after ten minutes of play.

Unfortunately, for the second straight day, the second period would prove to be ALC's achilles heel. In that quarter, the Lancers would drain 62.5% of their shots and produce a staggering 35 points. By the time the buzzer sounded for intermission the hosts would hold a 53-37 advantage.

In the third, sophomore forward Jamie Cowan provided 9 important points to lift her team to a 19 point period. However, 25 Grace points would give them a 78-56 lead heading into the final ten minutes of play.

In the final stanza, any hope of a comeback was quickly dashed as the Kentucky club would only produce 9 points in the period. Grace would not be threatened as they took home the victory.

For Alice Lloyd (2-4), Cowan came up big as she produced a 23 point-10 rebound double-double. She was joined in double figures by Moore and Stewart, with 14 and 11 points respectively. In addition, freshman guard Elivia Moore handed out 3 assists. Five different players had one steal apiece.

The Caney Club finished shooting 33.3% (24-72) from the field and a frigid 17.4% (4-23) from long range. They connected on a solid 80% (16-20) from the foul line while adding 38 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals.

Morganne Houk paced GC (3-0) with 21 points. Her squad finished shooting 45% (27-60) from the field, 37.9% (11-29) from behind the arc, and 66.7% (28-42) from the charity stripe. They also added 48 rebounds, 22 assists and 6 steals.
