Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles fall at (RV) Shawnee State University
Portsmouth, OH: On Tuesday, January 14th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles journeyed to the Buckeye state to battle (RV) Shawnee State University. The hosts put on a defensive performance to seize the victory, 78-46.
In the opening period, the Bears came out solid and would take the stanza 18-8
In the second quarter, the Ohio club was really stingy on defense, allowing only 5 points to the cold-shooting Eagles. A 27-point effort pushed the Bear advantage to 45-13 at halftime.
In the third period, the Bluegrass team saw freshman guard Bailey Stewart heat up, and she helped her crew take the segment, 17-16. SSU still led 61-34 heading into the final ten minutes of play.
In the final quarter, the Pippa Passes posse battled hard, but the Bears maintained their edge as they closed out the contest to seal the victory.
For ALC (6-10; 1-4 RSC), Stewart sank 5-9 field goals for 12 points. Freshman guard Elivia Moore chipped in with 10 points. Sophomore forward Jamie Cowan led the club with 5 rebounds, while senior guard Katie Jo Moore had 2 assists.
The Caney Club finished shooting 31.6% (18-57) from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from long range. They connected on 50% (5-10) from the foul line while adding 31 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals.
Lauren Hawthorne paced the Bears (12-3; 5-0 RSC) with 19 points. Her squad finished shooting 43.8% (28-64) from the field, 41.7% (10-24) from behind the arc and 60% (12-20) from the charity stripe. They also added 37 rebounds, 13 assists, and 8 steals.
The Lady Eagles are off until January 18th, when they travel to Columbus, Indiana, for their first-ever meeting with the Indiana University-Columbus Crimson Pride in RSC play. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
