Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles comeback in second half, defeat Indiana University East ,70-65

Pippa Passes, KY: On Tuesday, February 4th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles returned home to the Perry Center and "Coach J" Court to battle the Indiana University East Red Wolves in River States Conference action. The hosts would overcome a halftime deficit with solid defense to earn the victory, 70-65.

In the opening segment, defense was the name of the game as ALC held the Hoosier squad to just 11 points. Freshman guard Bailey Stewart led the hosts with 6 points which helped her club to a 14-11 lead after ten minutes of action.

In the second quarter, the game became a duel between each clubs leading scorer. Lady Eagle sophomore forward Jamie Cowan and East star Taylor Farris both caught fire. While Cowan outscored Farris 13-11. the Red Wolves would take the stanza 27-22. This would give the Hoosier club a 38-36 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, ALC tightened the clamps on defense once more, holding IUE to just 12 points. On offense, Stewart and senior guard Katie Jo Moore combined for 9 points to help their club race back and take a slight 52-50 lead heading into the final ten minutes.

In the final stanza, when they most needed it, the Caney Creek crew came out with their best run of the game. Stewart would drain consecutive shots to jumpstart a 11-0 burst. Eventually, when junior guard Aziah Campbell sank a jumper with 7:01 remaining to play, she gave her team a 63-50 advantage. While IUE tried to fight back, they would never get closer than 5 points as the Pippa Passes posse held on for the important victory.

For Alice Lloyd (9-13; 4-7 RSC), three players would hit double-digits. They were led by Cowan who produced another impressive double-double. She sank 5-7 field goals (2-2 from deep) and 6-7 free throws for 18 points. She also ripped down 14 rebounds.

She was followed by Stewart with 16 points (6-10 FG; 3-6 3FG) and Katie Moore, who bagged 6-16 shots for 15 points. Katie Moore also led the day with 6 assists, and added 5 boards of her own. 

In addition, Stewart and Campbell both recorded 2 blocks while freshman guard Elivia Moore had 3 steals.

The Caney Club finished shooting 38.8% (26-67) from the field and 33.3% (10-30) from long range. They connected on 88.9% (8-9) from the foul line while adding 46 rebounds, 14 assists, 6 blocks, and 8 steals.

Farris led IUE (9-14; 5-6 RSC) with 28 points and 16 rebounds. Her squad finished shooting 29.7% (22-74) from the field, 21.7% (5-23) from behind the arc, and 69.6% (16-23) from the charity stripe. They also added 51 rebounds, 9 assists, and 9 steals.

The Lady Eagles return home on Saturday, February 8th, for an important matchup with RSC foe Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
