Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles drop close decision to Milligan University
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball squad returned to the Perry Campus Center and "Coach J Court" on Tuesday, November 4th, to battle the Milligan University Buffaloes. The hosts put up a good fight before falling 88-79.
In the first period, sparked by guard Elivia Moore, the hosts broke out an early 8 point lead, 13-5. However, the Tennessee squad would chip into that deficit and only trail 18-17 after ten minutes of action.
In the second period, the visitors would turn to Semaj Clark, and she helped her club take the stanza, 22-17. This action helped the visitors pull out to a slight 39-35 advantage at intermission.
In the third period, ALC fought to stay close and fed the ball to forward Jamie Cowan, who deliverd in a major way. She would pump in 13 big points, but her team would still trail 65-55 entereing the last quarter.
In the final ten minutes, Cowen remained hot, pumping in 10 more points and snagging 6 big rebounds. Despite her effort, and 10 more points from Moore, the hosts were unable to make a late rally, dropping the 88-79 decision.
For ALC (0-2) only two players reached double-figures. Cowan sank 11-20 field goals and 5-6 free throws to finish with a game-high 27 points. She completed a huge double-double as she also snagged 15 rebounds. She even added 5 assists.
She was closely followed by Moore, who sank 6-13 field goals to finish with 18 points. Bailey Stewart added 9 points while Aziah Campbell led with 6 assists.
On the day, the Lady Eagles only shot 42.9% (30-70) from the field, 24% (6-25) from long-range, and 76.5% (13-17) from the charity stripe. They added 37 rebounds, 18 assists, and 3 steals.
MU (1-2) was led by Clark, with 19 points and 10 boards. Her club shot 49.1% (27-55) from the field, 35.7% (5-14) from long-range, won the game shooting 70.7% (29-41) from the foul line. They also snared 40 rebounds, added 16 assists and made 9 steals.
