Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball squad returned to the Perry Campus Center and "Coach J Court" on Tuesday, November 7th to face the NAIA's #25 squad, the University of the Cumberlands Patriots. The hosts put up a great effort in the first period, but did themselves in during the next ten minutes, and dropped a 91-62 decision.
In the first period, the visitors jumped out to a quick 13-3 lead. However, sparked by 10 points from sophomore guard Elivia Moore, the hosts fought back to get within three, 24-21. UC would sink a couple of late buckets and lead 29-23 after ten minutes of play.
In the second period, the visitors would turn to guard Jaydyn Carrico to gain seperation. Her 17 first half points helped her club roll off a huge 26-8 advantage.This would propel the Patriots to a 55-31 advantage heading into the locker room.
In the third period, ALC fought to stay close and were only outscored 18-17. However, the Williamsburg crew still led solidly, 73-48.
In the final ten minutes, ALC battled hard, but the Cumberlands squad would not be denied as they maintained control to take the road victory.
For ALC (0-3), Moore was the only player to hit double-figures. She sank 6-12 field goals, including 6-10 trifectas, for 19 points. She added 4 steals and 1 block. She was followed by junior forward Jamie Cowan with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 block. She also was tied by senior guard Aziah Campbell and sophomore guard Bailey Stewart with 2 assists.
On the day, the Lady Eagles only shot 35.6% (21-59) from the field, 29.2% (7-24) from long-range, and 59.1% (13-22) from the charity stripe. They added 34 rebounds, 8 assists, and 11 steals.
UC (6-0) was led by Carrico, with 21 points. Her club shot 44.2% (34-77) from the field, 21.1% (4-19) from long-range, and 67.9% (19-28) from the foul line. They also snared 56 rebounds, added 17 assists and made 13 steals.
