Alice Lloyd Volleyball Takes Two from Boyce College

Pippa Passes, KY: On September 10th, Coach Nathan Hall's Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team played host to a solid Boyce Lady Bulldogs squad in a doubleheader. The host looked impressive in both games as they earned two victories on the afternoon to run their record to 3-0.

Game 1

In set 1, the match was nip and tuck until the midway point. With ALC leading 16-14, the hosts went on a 6-1 run, which propelled them to the 25-18 victory.

In set 2, the Lady Eagles looked impressive as they blew out to a 19-7 cushion. However, the Bulldogs regrouped and went on a massive run, slicing the deficit to just one (24-23). Fortunately, for the home fans, they saw Elizabeth McIntosh come through with a big kill to hand the victory to the Pippa Passes crew.

In set 3, ALC led the entire match, but Boyce made it interesting with a late run that had them within one at 24-23. Once again, the Caney Creek club came through in the clutch as Adreonna Schutz delivered the match-clinching kill.

For the game, Caroline Parsons and Kristin Isaac led ALC with 16 and 10 assists, while Reiley McCoy, Brooklyn Cheek, and Kyleah Ward paved the way with 8 kills each. Jenni Droke led in digs with 16 and Chandler McAfee chipped in with 12.  Lakyn Porter registered 4 blocks while Schutz led with 2 aces.

Game 2

In set 1, the visitors took control early and pulled away for the 25-18 victory.

In set 2, Boyce looked to extend their momentum as they took a 17-13 lead. However, the hosts fought back to take a 20-19 advantage, and rode that to the 25-21 win.

In the crucial set 3, the Lady Bulldogs were headed for victory as they crept out to a 24-19 lead. After ALC regained possession, they used a combination of solid serves from Chandler McAfee and crucial errors from BC to score 7 consecutive points and defeat the stunned Bulldogs.

In set 4, Boyce knew they had to take the game, and they pulled out to an early lead. With the score knotted at 10-10, the Lady Eagles put on an impressive display as they exploded for a 10-3 burst to jump ahead 20-13. They used that momentum to seal the deal at 25-18, and earn the victory.

For the game, Caroline Parsons and Emalee Watts led ALC with 14 and 8 assists. Kyleah Ward (9), Adreonna Shutz (7), and Brooklyn Cheek (7) led the day in kills. Jenni Droke led in digs with 14 while Ward registered 5 blocks. Sierra Dawson and Shutz tied in aces with 2.

The Lady Eagles put their undefeated record on the line Tuesday when they host the Asbury University Lady Eagles at 6:00 PM. They travel to Pikeville on Wednesday for a showdown with the Lady Bears at 7:00 PM.
