Alice Lloyd Volleyball Plays Trio of Matches Over the Weekend

On October 7th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team journeyed to Ohio Christian University for a conference showdown with the Trailblazers.  They followed that up the next day with a matchup against the Miami University-Hamilton Thunder Hawks. Finally, they closed the trip with a River States Conference contest against the powerful Indiana University- East Red Wolves. After the dust settled, the Pippa Passes squad had finished 1-2.

 

October 7

Ohio Christian: 3- Alice Lloyd- 0

Facing the Trailblazers in set 1, ALC came out with a focused effort as the game was tight throughout. Entering crunch time, ALC trailed 22-21, and 24-23, but the Lady Eagles would commit a service error, handing the hosts the 25-23 win.

In set 2, OCU would take a small 6-4 advantage and then run off a 19-5 blitz to blow the game wide open on their way to the 25-9 win.

 In set 3, the squads battled evenly as ALC knew they needed the win to stay alive. Although the match was close and the Pippa Passes ladies only trailed 18-17, they would witness the Ohio crew close on a 7-1 burst to seal the match, 25-18.

On the day, Caroline Parsons led ALC with 15 assists while Reiley McCoy had 7 kills. Jenni Droke led everyone with 14 digs.  Kristin Isaac and Sierra Dawson provided the clubs two aces while the squad registered 3 total blocks.

 

 

October 8

MU-Hamilton: 2- Alice Lloyd- 3

In set 1, the squads traded blows as the score read 23-23. ALC would then get a point off an error and then win on Adreonna Schutz's kill, 25-24.

In set 2, the situation was reversed, except with the score knotted at 23, MUH closed with two kills to win, 25-23.

In set 3, the Caney Creek crew battled intently, leading from wire-to-wire, and were awarded with the big 25-15 win.

In set 4, Alice Lloyd fell behind but kept the contest close the entire way. Eventually, the hosts made a late run to win, 25-21.

In the tiebreaking 5th set, the Pippa Passes club was determined to garner the win, and they got out to their best start of the day. The Lady Eagles roared ahead 8-1, and cruised to the satisfying 15-8 clincher.

For the match, Caroline Parsons led ALC with 22 assists. Schutz smashed 11 kills while Reiley McCoy had 10. In addition, Jenni Droke led with 33 digs, Schutz contributed 5 blocks, and Emalee Watts smashed 7 aces.

 IU East-3; Alice Lloyd-0

Facing the 17-4 Red Wolves in Richmond (IN), the Caney Creek club saw the hosts open set 1 by stretching a small 6-4 advantage all the way to a explosive 25-8 win.

In set 2, IUE jumped out to a 15-4 cushion, and would then ride that momentum to a 25-13 win.

In set 3, ALC watched the powerful Red Wolves leap ahead 13-2, and then coast to the 25-10 victory.

On the day, Caroline Parsons led ALC in assists (6). Adreonna Schutz had 5 kills, while Parsons and Kristin Isaac led with 4 digs. Schutz had 1 block.

 The Lady Eagles (5-10) will next travel to Appalachian Bible on October 11th for a non-conference contest at 6:00pm. They will then return home for two conference matchups. Friday October 15th, they will battle West Virginia Tech University at 7:00pm. They then host Indiana University- Southeast the next day at 1:00pm.
