Alice Lloyd Volleyball drops tough five-game decision at Kentucky Christian University

Grayson, KY: The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles volleyball team traveled to Grayson,KY to battle the Kentucky Christian Lady Knights on Tuesday, October 14th. The Caney Creek crew would drop the first two games. However, they would rally to win the next pair before falling in a gut-wrenching fifth game.

The Eagles (14-8) would fall in five tight sets to KCU (9-13).

In game 1, the hosts jumped out to a quick 10-1 lead and held it the bulk of the match. They would keep that on their way to a 25-15 win.

Game 2 saw a close battle throughout as the score was tied numerous times. Finally, with the Eagles nursing a 20-19 lead, KCU would close with a 6-1 burst to win, 25-21.

Game 3, saw a wounded Caney Creek crew fight back. However, leading 9-7, the blue and white watched the hometown squad produce a 5-0 run to pull ahead 12-9. Impressively, ALC turned the tables by unleashing a 9-2 bomb of their own to leap ahead 18-14. From there, the Pippa Passes posse would not be denied as they took the nice 25-18 decision.

Game 4 saw the squads battle evenly to a 11-11 tie. From that point, the guests proceeded to deliver a 7-2 run to lead, 18-13. After that, KCU fought back, but the Lady Eagles would not be denied. A 25-21 win would send the match to a tie-breaking set.

In the game-deciding fifth set, Alice Lloyd pulled ahead 5-4, but then saw Kentucky Christian race back to pull ahead 14-9.

With their backs against the wall, the Pippa Passes posse responded by delivering four quick points to get within one, 14-13. Unfortunately, on the next play, an Eagle error delivered the decisive 15-13 win for the home team.

On the day, the Eagles led in kills (50-40), assists (43-35), and digs (73-59) while the Knights led in service aces (9-7). Individually, Jaden Hall and Rose Scotello led with 11 and 10 kills while Christa Amburgey added 9. Peyton Taylor  was big with 39 assists while Gracie Gibson (23), Hall (14), Scotello (13) and Camryn Thompson (10) all hit double-digit digs. Amburgey led the way with 3 service aces.
