ALC Lady Eagles Basketball battles Midway University
Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball squad returned to the Perry Campus Center and "Coach J Court" on Saturday afternoon to face the Midway University Lady Eagles. The visitors got off to a good start and rode that momentum all the way to a 96-80 decision.
In the first period, the visitors jumped out to a quick 15-2 advantage as the host squad could not by a basket. MU would use that to maintain a 26-13 lead after ten minutes of action.
In the second period, Midway guard Alexys Moore would batle ALC'S Jamie Cowan. Moore pumped in 12 points while Cowan practically matched her with 11 of her own. However, the central Kentucky crew would still maintain a 55-40 advantage heading into the locker room.
In the third period, ALC fought to stay close but Midway rolled off a nice run. They would take the stanza 28-15 and head into the final quarter holding a solid 83-55 lead.
In the last ten minutes, ALC battled hard, and paced by 9 Elivia Moore points, took the period 25-13. Unfortunately, the deficit was simply too great to overcome as MU took the victory.
For ALC (0-4), junior Cowan and sophomore Moore tied with 17 points apiece and grabbed 10 and 7 rebounds respectively.
Additionally, junior guard Shelby Stewart chipped in with 13 points and tied Moore with 3 assists, while sophomore guard Ashtyn Barrett nabbed a pair of steals.
On the day, the Lady Eagles shot 39.1% (25-64) from the field, 20.7% (6-27) from long-range, and 59.1% (13-22) from the charity stripe. They added 34 rebounds, 8 assists, and 11 steals.
Midway (4-1) was led by Moore, with 25 points. Her club shot 39.7% (31-78) from the field, 22.2% (4-18) from long-range, and 62.5% (30-48) from the foul line. They also snared 46 rebounds, added 17 assists and made 20 steals.
