ALC Lady Eagles comeback falls short, fall to Oakland City University

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles basketball squad  played host to the Oakland City University Lady Oaks (IN) on Saturday, November 22nd. The Lady Eagles would rally from a 19-point fourth quarter deficit before a dagger 3-pointer would lift the visitors to a 88-82 victory.

In the first period, the game was tight early, as ALC junior forward Jamie Cowan pumped in 7 points to keep the hosts tied. However, a late run from the Oaks gave them a 28-22 advantage after ten minutes of play.

In the second period, Cowan and junior guard Kennedy Johnson combined to score half of their squads 20 points. The Caney crew would trial 47-42 at intermission.

In the third period, ALC went ice cold as they only produced 10 points. A 23-10 advantage for the Hoosier club lifted them to a 70-52 lead entering the final ten minutes.

In the last quarter, the home squad turned to Cowan and sophomore guard Elivia Moore and the pair heated up. The duo would combine for 19 big points as the blue and white began to cut into the deficit. Finally, when sophomore guard Bailey Stewart stole the ball and raced for the driving score with just .39 ticks remaining, the score was knotted at 82-82.

Unfortunately, on the next possession, OCU's Nora Miller shot a surprisingly-quick trifecta with .28 remaining. Her shot swished in and the Oaks led 85-82. ALC came down and found Shelby Stewart in the corner. Her game-tying attempt at .24 came up short, and Oakland City snagged the rebound. They would sink a single charity toss to move ahead 86-82, and after grabbing another rebound, add a clinching pair to set the final score.

For ALC (1-6) three players reached double-figures. Cowan achieved a double-double as she finished with a game-high 28 points on 12-18 shooting. She also ripped down 13 boards. Moore finished the game with 12 points and led the club with 3 assists while Bailey Stewart added 10 points and a game-high 5 steals.

On the day, the Lady Eagles finished 37.3% (31-83) from the field, 27% (10-37) from long-range, and 55.6% (10-18) from the charity stripe. The added 37 rebounds, 19 assists, and 11 steals.

OCU (1-7) was led by Allyson Rideout, with 21 points. Her club shot 51% (26-51) from the field, 35.3% (6-17) from long-range, and 81.1% (30-37) from the foul line. They added 46 rebounds, 14 assists and 7 steals.
