Cowan scores 8 points in final .26 seconds, leads ALC Lady Eagles to amazing 74-73 comeback victory

Louisville, KY: Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles junior forward Jamie Cowan scored 8 points in the final. 26 seconds of play to help the Caney Creek crew overcome a 6-point deficit and pull out a stunning 74-73 victory over the homestanding Simmons College Falcons. The stunner was played on Tuesday, December 10th.

In the first period, the hosts were ice-cold as they only connected on 2-17 attempts. Five Lady Eagles would dent the scoreboard as the East Kentucky squad jumped out to a 14-6 lead after ten minutes of play.

In the second quarter, Lady Falcan Morgan Defoor heated up to the tune of 12 points. Her outburst would help her squad take the stanza 19-12. However, Bailey Stewart tossed in 6 points for the Pippa Passes posse and her crew would hold a slight 26-25 advantage at intermission.

In the third period, the  Lady Eagles would see 7 players produce points. Despite that, Simmons rallied to take the quarter 22-19. This would sent the Louisville club into the final ten minutes clinging to a, 47-245 lead

In the last quarter, the Falcons saw Defoor go berserk, as she unleashed a huge 16 point effort on the mountain girls. Her massive effort would lead the hosts to a seemingly insurmountable 72-66 lead with only .26 remaing to play.

 However, Alice Lloyd refused to roll over. First, the Lady Eagles would quickly push the ball upcourt and feed Cowan for a bucket  at .21 (72-68). Then, after being immediately fouled, The Lady Falcons sank 1-2 charity tosses to still lead, 73-68, with .16 remaining.

Once again, the Caney Crew raced down floor. Sophomore guard Elivia Moore missed a quick jumper, but Cowan snagged the errant shot, scored, and drew a foul with .10 showing. Her succesful free throw now made the score 73-71.

Incredibly, on the inbounds play, senior guard Aziah Campbell stole a pass with .09 on the scoreboard, fed the ball to Cowan , who powered her way to the hoop. She would be slapped on the shot, but, her attempt found the bottom of the net. Just like that, and much to the shock of the home fans, the contest was knotted up, 73-73 with .07 glaring on the clock.

In another zone, Cowan cooly swished the penalty, and the Eagle fans went crazy as they now led, 74-73. On the final play, a stunned Falcons club fumbled the ball and failed to get a shot off before the game-ending horn sounded. The Lady Eagles they celebrated the truely amazing comeback victory.

For ALC (4-7) , winners of three straight, three players reached double-figures. Cowan led the way with 22 points on 6-13 accuracy and 10-14 charity tosses. She aslo ripped down 19 monster rebounds. She was followed by Moore with 16 points and 8 boards.  Bailey Stewart also chipped in with  11 points and 2 assists.

On the day, the Lady Eagles finished shooting 34.8%% (24-69) from the field, 16.1% (5-31) from long-range, and 75% (21-28) from the charity stripe. They added 44 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals

Wieting led Defoor (4-5) with 32 points. Her squad shot 32.3% (21-65) from the field, 31.3% (5-16) from long-range, and 76.5% (26-34) from the foul line. They added 37 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.
