The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team concluded the regular season as they traveled to Kokomo (IN) and Saint Mary of the Woods (IN) for two challenging matches over the weekend. On Friday, November 4th, they faced the defending champion Indiana University Kokomo Cougars. One day later, they faced a solid Saint Mary of the Woods squad. Both contests were challenging, and went to the home teams, 3-0.
November 4th
IU Kokomo-3; ALC-0
Against Kokomo (27-6; (16-2 RSC) in set 1, the score read 5-3 before the hosts rolled off a mammoth 15-2 spurt to pull away, in route to the 25-7 victory.
In set 2, ALC put up a tussle and only trailed 14-11 at the midpoint. However, IUK would control things the rest of the way and take the 25-15 decision.
In set 3, the Cougars pulled ahead 9-5 before going on a 11-1 burst to jump out 20-6. They then closed out the night with a solid 25-11 win.
For the match, Kristin Isaac and Caroline Parsons led ALC with 6 and 5 assists respectively. Elizabeth Mcintosh smacked 4 kills, while Chandler Mcafee led with 7 digs. Adreonna Schutz recorded 2 blocks.
November 5th
SMW-3; ALC-0
The opening set saw ALC hang tight early against the 26-6 (12-6 RSC) squad as the score was tied at 7-7. From that point, SMW, would finish on a 18-6 run to grab the win, 25-13.
In set 2, the Indiana squad saw the Caney Creek crew battle tooth-and-nail in a well-played contest. However, trailing just 19-18, the Lady Eagles witnessed Saint Mary close with 6-2 spurt to seal the deal, 25-20.
In set 3, the squads both looked good as the two combatants traded scores in an evenly matched game. Unfortunately, with the Kentucky club only trailing 18-16, the experience SMW squad would finish the job with a 7-2 run to end the contest, 25-18.
On the day, Parsons led ALC in assists with 12, and had the lone ace. Summer Madden (6), Schutz (5), and Reiley McCoy (5) paved the way in kills. Macafee led with 18 digs and 1 ace, while Ward registered 2 blocks.
The Lady Eagles (7-19; 1-16 RSC) now await the start of the NCCAA Mideast Region Tournament. Pairings will be announced shortly.
