ALC Soccer wins Mideast Regional Tournament with 2-0 shutout victory over Boyce College
New Albany, IN: On November 8th, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles traveled to Indiana to battle the host Boyce College Bulldogs in the championship game of the Mideast Regional Tournament. An automatic berth to the NCCAA DII National Championship would go to the winner.
The match actually began on Friday, but after 42 minutes of scoreless ball, the contest was called due to fog. The squads returned Saturday evening and picked up where they left off. After 90 minutes of pressurized play, an incredible effort on defense plus a pair of monster goals on the offensive side would hand the Pippa Passes posse a 2-0 shutout and record-setting victory.
Early on Day 2, the Eagles struck gold, At the 43:31 mark, ALC's Maddux Camden sprinted down field on a break-away, and powered home the opening goal (1-0). From there, the host Bulldogs peppered the net with attempts, but ALC goalie Kalin Schneider blocked each of them.
Later, at 68:52, Alice Lloyd's Luis Sarabia went solo and laced the ball past the fingertips of Boyce goalie Sean Coulter. The huge shot now put the east Kentucky club ahead 2-0.
The Bulldogs battled fiercly, attemting to cut into the lead. Impressively, Schneider refused to break and he stopped several powerful kicks, including several on near-improbable dives. When the final horn sounded sealing the 2-0 shutout victory, the Caney faithful erupted knowing Coach Juan Landers crew were the champions and would be advancing to the schools first-ever Soccer National Championship.
The host school led in shots, 29-11 and shots-on-goal, 16-8. Camden and Sarabia delivered the goods with the games only scores. Defensively, Schneider recorded 16 monster saves on 16 attempts while Coulter of Boyce recorded 6.
The champion Eagles (12-2-3) will now advance to the 2025 Division II Men's Soccer National Championship scheduled for November 17th-22nd at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL.
